Illustrator Biography

Betsy Lewin grew up Clearfield, Pennsylvania with a love for drawing and aspirations of being an artist. Her mother was
a kindergarten teacher and enriched her with life with children’s literature. Betsy graduated from Pratt institute where
she studied illustration. Her first job was creating greeting cards and went on to write and illustrate stories for a children’s
magazine. Her first big break came when an editor from Dodd, Mead & Company asked her to expand one of her stories from the magazine
into a children’s book. She was thrilled and has been creating children’s books since. She has received a silver
metal from the Society of Illustrators, as well as a Caldecott Honor award. Many of her books have also appeared on the New
York Times Best Seller list. Betsy is currently living in Brooklyn with her husband where she is always searching for her next great idea for a new
book. She also co-teaches a MFA class at Hartford Art School I love Betsy’s art because it is very unique. She usually draws in pen or brush and does a water color wash which
gives her pictures an impressive quality. I think that her art is so appealing to me because it is sophisticated yet juvenile
all at the same time! My favorite books of Betsy’s is Click, Clack Moo, Cows That Type- written by Doreen Cronin. She has also worked on
