Four Corners Storytelling Festival

Thursday, October 9th, 2008
Today I volunteered to help at the Storytelling festival. This was the day when all of the schools were coming and I thought it would be a great environment in which to experience my first storytelling festival. Boy oh Boy!! Was I ever right! The energy at Berg park was incredible! I could tell that the children were just as excited to be there as the storytellers themselves!
I was situated at the Animas tent featuring the profound liar- Bil Lepp. It was amazing to watch him capture the attention of the audience, (children and adults alike) and keep it through out his outlandish tale.
When Bil first began to speak I was immediately reminded of the ever so funny Jeff Foxworthy. He has a slight southern draw and his timing was perfect!
He told a story about when he was a boy and him and friends were convinced that his teacher was Wonder-Woman. This story was full of quick witted humor, suspense and the familiar  juvenile aspects of childhood such as arguing and oblivion. I was very impressed how he was able to involve the audience in the story, having them yell out different phrases and scream. The children did a great job at following directions( stopping when Bil was ready to move on) It was fantastic to watch!
